Dr. Fred Chen is a pediatric dental specialist who will be joining the practice in July of 2016. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree from the University of Pennsylvania, with Honors in Community Health. He continued his education by specializing in Pediatric Dentistry at the Yale-New Haven Hospital.
While Dr. Chen was in dental school he was actively involved in outreach services in the West Philadelphia community. He visited elementary schools in the area providing oral health education in the classroom and dental services on a mobile dental bus. In addition, on a weekly basis, he organized and provided dental services at a free health clinic. Through these experiences, he learned the importance of early intervention, prevention and education in promoting oral health.
Even from a young age, Dr. Chen has always worked closely with children. From babysitting kids in his neighborhood to teaching children's art classes when he was in high school, his passion for working with children led him to pursue pediatric dentistry. In his residency, he had the opportunity to treat children from newborns to young adults, in addition to patients with special healthcare needs. He strives to create a positive dental experience for every patient by alleviating their fears, gaining their trust and providing safe and high quality care.
Dr. Chen is a memeber of Medical Staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he will be teaching residents in the Pediatric Dentistry program. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In his spare time, Dr. Chen is a marathon enthusiast who hopes to one day complete a marathon in every state, a skier and a home cook who enjoys making ethnic cuisine.
Dr. Chen is excited to join Vaughn Family Dentistry and is looking forward to treating your children!
